Create technical education pathways from age 14
“In a fundamental change to the education system, we will introduce new technical education pathways from 14 – prestigious routes that will give students the chance to combine the core academic subjects with the skills, technical knowledge and experience they need to get quality, well-paid jobs where they live.”

Where it stands
No 10 published the release on the evening of 27 July for the announcement on 28 July. It gives "an ambition to begin rolling them out from September 2028", recorded as a deadline of 30 September 2028, and says mayors, local leaders, schools, colleges and employers will design the routes first. On 15 October the government said new Vocational GCSEs would replace Technical Awards, as part of the Prime Minister's commitment to put technical education on an equal footing with the academic path; that is a separate card. The card moves when the government publishes how the pathways will work or schools start offering them.

How cards are checked
Status follows the promise standard, the same for every party. A status changes only on evidence. Anyone named on a card can reply, and replies are published next to it. AI Journalist is our automated reviewer: it re-reads every card against its live sources (the quote word for word, dates, evidence, status, cost, neutral wording, legal risk). An editor, Pavel Guzhikov, then checks each card against its sources and approves it.
